And It's Official!

At long last I can share my good news. And just in time, too, because I'm pretty sure I was going to explode with glee!

As per Publisher's Lunch:

THEODOSIA and NATHANIEL FLUDD  author R. L. LaFevers' trio of YA romantic historical fantasies focusing on teen girl assassins in 15th century France--starting with DARK MERCY in spring 2012 and followed by DARK JUSTICE and DARK HOPE in spring 2013 and spring 2014--each focusing on a different assassin trained at a convent serving the god of death himself, to Kate O'Sullivan at Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, in a preempt, in a good deal, by Erin Murphy of Erin Murphy Literary Agency (NA). Rights People represents foreign and translation.

A few more story details from the Publisher's Weekly Bookshelf:
In Dark Mercy, scheduled for spring 2012, Ismae learns she was sired by the god of death, is trained as an assassin, and is sent to court as a spy, where she must choose between serving her dark god and opening her heart to love. Companion novels Dark Justice and Dark Hope, each focusing on a different assassin from the convent, will publish in spring 2013 and spring 2014.

For those of you who stop by my blog regularly, THIS is the Secret Project I've been working on in between other books over the last couple of years. No, that's not true. I've been working on it off and on for over four years. It combines all of my favorite things; dark gods, dark choices, yearning, sneaking, epic romance. And how lucky am I to be working with The Best Editor EVER again. It's definitely one of those Pinch Me! moments in my life.

Just saw this in Publisher's Weekly! Sounds cool, and something my teens will definitely like. Is it going to have funny bits? Because I would definitely break my "i'm too busy to read ya" rule if it does...

Thanks, Sherrie!

And Jennifer, alas, there isn't much humor in it. I mean, there are moments when the protagonist sees the humor in something or has a wry thought, but there are nowhere near as many funny bits as the Theodosia books. Hugely different tone and feel. So do be warned...:-)

I've congratulated you elsewhere but it's such good news I will do it again: Congratulations!

And, if you feel like it, I would love to hear more at some point about the writing of this book. I remember you saying in a previous post about how this was a book that made you stretch and grow as a writer, and that it challenged you to go places you hadn't been before.

I'm curious whether you intentionally set out to do that? And if so, did you identify certain things (challenges) in advance and then set out to attempt them?

Thank you, thank you everyone! This is all really too exciting for words!

And Deva, those would make some excellent blog topics! Thanks so much for the suggestions!

OOOH!

I'll be thirteen then, so I bet I'll be able to read it.

And, if my math was done right (and never rule out the possibility it wasn't), that's going to be around six months from when, if I'm SUPER lucky, my book MIGHT get published! I'm getting close to a third of the way finished with Draft Numero Uno!

Yeah, that excites me a lot. BOTH of those... I know how long it takes to WRITE a book, but why does it take so long to PUBLISH them?

Thank you for all your enthusiastic support!

Although Tricia and Robin, I must warn you the books are for a much older audience than the Theodosia books. I'd say older YA, fourteen and up.

And Mel, I'm LOLing at your suggestion to swim in it til my fingers get all pruney. I think I will do exactly that.

Amy, I'm sure I'll get to post teasers at some point...

And congratulations to you, Mae, for being so close to finishing your book. That is terrific news!
