An Author Interview

For anyone who's interested, there's an interview with moi posted over at Cynthia Leitch Smith's blog. Cynthia is an amazing advocate of children's books and children's authors, as well as a terrific author of kid's books. Her new one coming out next year is called TANTALIZE (Candlewick, 2007) and is a gothic YA and I can't wait to read it.

If you have time, poke around her website because as I say, it's an amazing resource for anyone who likes kids' books or has young readers in their lives. Lots of book recommendations and reviews, author interviews, etc.

Very cool article. I liked what you had to say about how society seems to prepare girls more, and boys less, for the changes that their bodies will experience. Well, 'liked' is probably not the best word, maybe I should say that I agree with you. It's something that we're discovering in our home now, as Michael heads towards the teens. I think of all the time I spend with Gret, preparing her for adulthood, and realize I haven't done nearly the same thing with him. I need to work on that, a LOT. Thanks for reminding me.
I think part of it is that I worry more about my girls than I do my boys. I know that's not right, but I do. I see the boys as needing less help, because I know they will be physically more able to take care of things. Yet, they are not just physical. I have prepared the girls for the emotional stuff, but not the boys. Will work on that one.

Theodosia sounds like my kind of gal! Hopefully they won't hold her back for three years before you get to publish her story!! LOL!

I am sure that I asked this before, but is there any chance your publisher will let you write a sequel to Falconmaster? I really want to know what Wat did with his powers and what else happened to him! I really love that book (sigh).

And what you said about boys not being as prepared as girls for puberty--that is so true! What a great analogy, comparing them to a werewolf--I can say for a fact that MY son has snapped and snarled at us many times over the past couple of years! Growing up isn't for wimps!
